Welcome to the Ely Plains website...
The Ely Plains are an 'Alternative Dustbowl' band, currently making their name on the UK Americana circuit. Inspired by the music and the imagery of depression era North America, the Ely Plains have put together a collection of original material that showcases their mastery of old timey roots music with an English twist.
The Ely Plains weave uplifting harmonies around songs that tell intelligent tales whilst welding fiddle, banjo and mandolin, acoustic guitar, harmonica and alternative country Telecaster with vintage chord organ drones and melodies. These, combined with a rock solid rhythm section, create a dynamic live experience that is equally at home in a bar, americana club or any summer festival.
Formed in 2008 the band hail from the 'just north 'of London and have a wealth of live and recording experience behind them. Following the release of a 4 track EP in 2009,, their 2012 debut album 'The National Bandstand' was self-recorded in a 1920s scout hut chosen for its live sound and rural feel.
They've since taken these songs to clubs and festivals up and down the country including some of the capital's premier Americana venues such as Countrier Than Thou, Come Down and Meet The Folks, Honky Tonkin' Sundays, What's Cookin, Our Grass Is Blue and The Easycome Club as well as regular appearances at their favourite little boozer in Borough 'The Gladstone Arms'. The Plains also enjoy excellent receptions at various summer festivals such as 'Folk on The Green' and 'FolkFest'.
After taking a break for a while the band is back with a new double A side single - Jackson/Nothing Left To Go Around - available on iTunes, spotify and right here on the website. They are currently working on new material and will return to the stage in Autumn 2016...
